Una de las mejores canciones del 2008

Dos chicos recién ingresados a la Universidad  de Wesleyan de Connecticut, un estado muy al noreste de U.S.A, de clima frío y con una alta densidad de población. Estudiantes de arte que en su primer año (2002) intercambian sus gustos musicales sin pensar en formar una banda , experimentando con noise rock y electrónica, sin embargo, antes del 2005 ya habían formado una banda que se llamó “The Management“, pero como existían otras bandas con este nombre lo redujeron a MGMT (pronunciando cada letra).

Inciaron presentadose en eventos independientes, hasta que en este año graban “Time to Pretend“, iniciando un tour en que le abrian al grupo Of Montreal , esto y el nombre de la canción, atrajeron la atención de Steve Lillywhite, productor de Columbia Records, quien les ofreció un contrato para grabar 4 discos con ellos. Iniciaron con Oracular Spectacular, en mayo del 2008, su primer single fue “Time to Pretend” , sin lugar a dudas un éxito, pues llegó a ocupar el puesto #3, en las canciones más escuchadas del 2008 en last.fm, uno de los sitios web más populares sobre musica en el mundo; y el mismo puesto en la lista de los mejores singles del 2008 que publica la revista Rolling Stone, así como el puesto #1 en abril del 2008 en la lista de Top Heatseekers de la revista Billboard .
